Fold Your Hands Child
My second piece for BA Portfolio, Fold Your Hands Child, is an oil painting with elements of collage. Repurposing antique photos of families, women, and symbolically feminine objects, this work is an analysis of antiquated ideals of femininity and the role which women play within family structures. Where are these ideals taught? What are there origins? How do they effect the individual?
The body of work which this painting comes from acts as a critique to the history of oil painting and its inherent catering to male artists and viewers, by combining it with a craft which has historically been carried out by women, my portfolio strives to level the playing field between the gendered divide within the art world.
Dimensions: 3'x3'
